I love the classes at Live Oak Yoga. Karyl provides a calm, supportive presence. In private classes Karyl taught me asanas that reduced my joint and back pain and also poses to ease digestive discomfort. During treatment for breast cancer, the restorative yoga she taught me minimized not only the side effects of chemotherapy, but also gave me a vehicle with which to nurture myself.
Karyl offers yoga instruction unlike any other I have encountered. She helps us connect body and mind in a way that has astounded me. She teaches not only the asanas, but what to observe about your body as you move into the pose. I’ve become stronger and more flexible in three years than I had in the seven previous years of practice.
Iyengar yoga is more precise than any style of yoga I’ve experienced. Karyl is an observant and thoughtful teacher. The studio offers a peacefulness that allows you to go into a meditative state while energizing your body. We all walk out smiling when class ends radiating positive energy wherever we go.
Along with her clear instruction, Karyl creates an environment where I feel inspired to be an exuberantly strong, healthy woman both physically and spiritually. Technique is refined for sure, but the emphasis on being patient with myself and being mindful is so important to me. I feel like there’s a loving supportive family at Live Oak Yoga Studio!
Whether you are an advanced practitioner or raw beginner, Karyl will help you progress in your practice. Her stern but gentle, informative style of teaching aids in working out the kinks of improper practice which works out kinks in everyday life. This is not a weight loss program. Yoga in the Iyengar tradition is a means to a light life.
Karyl’s thirst for more knowledge, deepening her own practice by studying with senior teachers here and abroad and then sharing that knowledge with us is what makes attending classes at Live Oak Studio so special. Karyl studies her students allowing her to tailor her classes to their needs so we can progress in our practice.
Karyl’s classes have taught me the depth of each yoga pose. Previously I was moving through poses quickly to make my workout more “aerobic”. Now I better understand the nuances of each pose. I realize there’s alway something new to learn.
I’ve been taking yoga classes with Karyl for over five years now and my balance is much better, my knees don’t bother me so much now and I feel my posture is much better. I like the stretches we do in class and definitely feel more flexible in my shoulders as a result. I like that the classes are small and Karyl is very supportive.
Iyengar classes with Karyl are truly a cut above any other yoga class I’ve taken in my life. The tiny adjustments intrinsic to Iyengar practice, and the detail-oriented way of building a pose from the ground up have changed my practice permanently. In addition the things I’ve learned from Karyl have changed my massage practice (for myself and my clients), my posture, and my life!
In her classes Karyl teaches poses on an elementary level and then takes the poses deeper and deeper creating a keen awareness that unites the breath, body, mind and spirit. The atmosphere in class is warm, welcoming, fun. As a student, I leave class feeling not only exhilarated and fit, but calm and at peace. It is a delight to be a part of these classes and an absolutely wonderful thing to do for yourself.
