After class walking towards home, I passed Krissie, a good humored New Zealander now living in Melbourne. "You should stop at the bar and have a drink. It's so refreshing." She pointed down the street toward a cart surrounded by fellow students.
Each day here provides an adventure or two. So I joined the line and watched the coconut walla. First he chopped sections off the end of the smooth green coconut leaving a hole, inserted a long straw, and passed it to a customer. Quickly half a dozen of us were enjoying fresh coconut milk. As we each finished, he efficiently whacked the coconut into pieces, scooped out the glistening white, slippery coconut flesh and piled it in one of the shells with a spoon made from the shell. Delicious and so refreshing.
